Pride and Prejudice and Zombies – Take 2

So, there was rumor (and subsequent dismissal of said rumor) about a tv miniseries for Seth Grahame-Smith’s zombie-laced version of Pride and Prejudice.

But, now, it’s been announced that the REAL movie version of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is beginning to take shape. Actress Natalie Portman is set to star in and produce the theatrical feature.

There was a rumor floating around stating that the book Pride and Prejudice and Zombies was going to be made into a TV mini-series. Sadly, this rumor was debunked by the author a short time later, stating that the ultimate goal is to adapt the book into a movie!

The $70 Zombie Film that Wowwed Cannes

By now, you’ve all heard about it. British filmmaker, Marc Price, created a complete zombie/horror motion picture for a budget of $70. Which is fairly impressive, to say the least.

Basically, using his friends, and an open casting call through Facebook, he shot a fascinating and compelling movie, from the perspective of a man undergoing his transformation into a zombie.

The movie was a huge hit at the Cannes Film Festival and is now being shopped around for distribution. And, at $70, they are sure to make their money back.

Nazi Zombies find distributor

Good news for those of us eager to see the Norwegian zombie horror/comedy, “Dead Snow.” After being a huge success at Sundance, IFC has picked up the rights to distribute the movie.

For me, best case scenario would be a theatrical release and then quickly broadcasting on IFC’s cable channel.

Samurai Zombie

The official, spoiler-laden, trailer for the movie. I think the skyrocketing head, at the 41 second mark, is my favorite part. Although seeing the rubber mask shaking in the last shoot is a nice touch too.

Sorry, I don’t mean to mock. I suppose if I knew if this was supposed to be a straight-up horror movie or if it was supposed to be funny might make a difference. It certainly is bloody but it looks like it have (purposely) funny moments too.

I suppose that the fact that its Samurai Zombies should say a lot about that too. Anyway, here’s the trailer.

World War Z movie update

J Michael Straczynski talks with MTV about his take on the movie version of World War Z. It sounds like he wants to take it to a much bigger scale than the book – taking on an international, globe-trotting feel and giving the audience a much larger threat than any other zombie film has tried before.

“Most zombie movies to this point have been small, focusing on a few people in a house. And this has got real scare. You’re in India with hundreds of boats trying to get out of there with a tidal wave of zombies. The scale of what we’re doing here is phenomenal.”

Nazi Snow Zombies: Dead Snow trailer

It’s just been announced that the Nazi-Zombie-Horror-Comedy from Norway, Dead Snow, will be screened at the Sundance Film Festival.

The movie is about a group of kids who take a snowmobile trip to the mountains and end up waking up a horde of Nazi zombies. Based on the trailer, this looks like it could be a hugely bloody and pretty funny movie. It’s hard to say just how much of a comedy vs a horror movie it actually is, but it definitely seems like a movie worth checking out. Hopefully, it will find distribution to a wider audience – this feels like a movie that should be seen in a theater with a bunch of friends. Otherwise, this would make a great rental, to be seen with a bunch of friends.

The War to End All Wars

Variety has reported that Quantum of Solace director, Marc Forster, has been tapped to direct the big-screen version of Max Brooks’ novel, World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War.

The novel tells the story of the war between zombies and humans, from the perspective of those who lived through it. This could potentially be a challenging script to work from, as the main action of the story occurs “off-screen”, so to speak. The novel is, as the title says, an oral history, told 10 years after the conflict.

Well, in my opinion, any movie about zombies deserves the benefit of the doubt. I look forward to this hitting theaters.
