I really wanted to scare the players with a horde of zombies. Instead, they turned those zombies into little bags of flesh and bone littered all over the floor. I wrote up a little blog post on the D&D community site, where I explain what went wrong:

Now that I have become consumed by the king of all geek pastimes, Dungeons and Dragons, I feel that its only fitting that I talk about the fantastic supplement for Dungeon Masters, to the 4th edition rules, Open Grave: Secrets of the Undead.

Now, why is this book so great? Well, for starters, it has all sorts of stats and background information on all kinds of undead monsters. Evil liches, skeletal armies, vampires and ghosts, just to name a few.

While this book provides tons of story hooks and potential encounters for D&D players, there are two things in here that I love and cannot wait to implement into my game.

Zombie Hoards. Yep, they give you tips and ideas on how to overwhelm your party with a seemingly non-stop fury of a hoard of zombies.

Zombie Plague. Now, after one of your players gets attacked by the zombies, there’s a possibility that they can become infected with the same hideous plague that brought them back to life. And if the player cannot reverse the effects, they die and are reborn a zombie. I love this!
