Dawn of the Dead

The movie that started the “Fast Moving Zombie” genre. Directed by Zach Snyder (300) and written by James Gunn (Slither), this is the remake of the classic George Romero zombie flick. This is the story of what happens when a group of strangers fight for their lives against a horde of terrifying zombies, while trapped in a mall. While this movie lacks Romero’s commentary on cultural consumerism, it more than makes up for it in action and fun.

28 Days Later

A “rage” virus has infected most of the London population, causing those who contract the disease to turn into mindless, murderous, flesh-eating monsters. 28 days later, a man (Cillian Murphy – Batman Begins) wakes up in the hospital to find the world a very different place. Joining up with some survivors, they attempt to find sanctuary until the outbreak is contained.

28 Weeks Later

28 weeks later, the “rage” virus is contained. Under the control of the U.S. military, portions of London are re-populated. One man (Robert Carlyle – Trainspotting, The Full Monty), with a shameful secret tries to start a new life in the quarantined sector. But it’s not long before the horror of the rage virus returns.

Shaun of the Dead

Brilliantly funny send up of the zombie genre, starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz). Pegg plays Shaun, the lazy, unmotivated store clerk who tries to win back his ex-girlfriend, learn to cope with his step-father and put up with his boorish friend (Frost), all while dealing with the unfortunate rise of the living dead. This movie is absolutely wonderful – funny, exciting and, at times, quite tender. This movie cannot be recommended enough!
